The posts and rails are manufactured of PVC or plastic with the posts generally 5 inches square with rectangular holes through them for the rails to pass through. The rails are generally 16 feet in length and staggered so that all the splices are not in the same post. The rails are generally 1 1/2 inches wide x 6 inches high and are hollow. The color is normally white or off-white.
