For a basic definition of fences, see Fencing. The rails are either welded or clamped to the steel post. The posts can be from 3 to 6 inches in diameter. Spacing between posts can be from 8 to 12 feet. The fence may be painted. If not painted it will, over time, take on a red rust color.
